STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The school year has only just started in New York City public schools, but students and teachers might already be counting down to the next day off.
The academic year kicked off across the five boroughs last week , and there will be several days off from school between now and winter break.
The 2025-2026 school calendar gives plenty of time off for federal and religious holidays, as well as multiple days off or weeklong breaks throughout the school year.
New York City public school students will have nine days off before winter recess begins.
Here are the key dates that students won’t need to head to campus.
Sept. 23 — Schools closed for Rosh Hashanah
Sept. 24 — Schools closed for Rosh Hashanah
Oct. 2 — Schools closed for Yom Kippur
Oct. 13 — Schools close
