LEXINGTON, S.C. - A man is now facing charges after he allegedly hit a South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper during a crash on Tuesday.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Jerrod Ricks, 23, was charged with reckless driving Thursday afternoon and was also issued a citation for endangering emergency service personnel.

Ricks is accused of hitting SCHP Master Trooper Wayne H. LaBounty during a traffic stop Tuesday morning on Augusta Highway in Lexington County.

Ricks was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center but was released on a $440 bond. He is not allowed to have any contact with the victim and is not allowed to drive in South Carolina.

Officials say LaBounty, the third S.C. trooper struck in a month, is in good spirits, but still has a long road to recovery.
