ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - 8-year-old Secoriea Turner’s parents remember her being beyond her years.

“Secoriea was very outspoken. She loved reading, she was always dancing,” said her mom Charmaine Turner.

Her parents said she knew she wanted to go to Spelman College one day.

“She was very specific, like detailed on what she wanted to be,” said Turner.

Her life was cut short in 2020. Police said she was shot and killed when she and her mom rode past the remains of the Atlanta Wendy’s that was burned down during the protest of an officer killing Rayshard Brooks.

Jerrion McKinney was handed down a 40-year sentence and ordered to do 20 years in prison for his role in the shooting. The other suspect, Julian Conley, is set to go to trial for murder next week.
