Bronx, NY – A Bronx man has been sentenced to five to 15 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of fatally stabbing his roommate during a violent confrontation inside their Sheridan Avenue apartment.

District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced that 39-year-old Akino George received the sentence Friday from Bronx Supreme Court Justice Steven Hornstein following his conviction for second-degree manslaughter in May.

According to trial evidence, the incident unfolded on the morning of March 7, 2022, when George was choking and assaulting his girlfriend inside their Concourse Village residence at 1011 Sheridan Avenue. His roommate, Edwin Acevedo, 30, intervened, forcing George out of the apartment and locking the door to protect the woman.
