Prosecutors feel “frustrated and betrayed” in the wake of the Edmonton Police Service’s unprecedented decision to publicly attack a plea arrangement in a child homicide case, a source has told Postmedia.
The senior Crown, who spoke on condition of anonymity, is one of several current and former prosecutors criticizing EPS’s move, which the Canadian Civil Liberties Association on Thursday called “manifestly unconstitutional and deeply troubling.”
On Tuesday, EPS released a letter sent to justice ministry officials protesting an alleged plea agreement in the case of a 29-year-old woman charged in 2023 with murdering an eight-year-old girl in her care.
