“The Office” has become one of the most popular mockumentary style sitcoms in pop culture history.

The American version premiered in 2005 and is based on the 2001 British series co-created by and starring Ricky Gervais. Adapted for NBC by Greg Daniels, the comedy follows an eccentric and intrusive boss Michael Scott, portrayed by Steve Carell.

The single-camera and interview style show became a hit , running for nine seasons before it concluded in 2013. It also won five Emmy Awards, including outstanding comedy series.

Now, over a decade later, Daniels, along with Michael Koman (“Nathan For You”), has returned with “The Paper,” a spinoff that is set in the same universe but takes on a whole new crew of quirky characters — and one familiar face.
