A 22-year-old man from Utah has been arrested in connection with the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Authorities identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson during a press conference on Friday morning. President Donald Trump stated that law enforcement believes they have the right person in custody.

“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody,” Trump said during an appearance on Fox News' Fox & Friends. He was asked about any updates regarding Kirk's assassination, which occurred while he was speaking to students at Utah Valley University in Orem.

While Trump did not disclose specific details about the case, he mentioned that someone close to Robinson reportedly turned him in. This individual allegedly informed Robinson's father, who then contacted a U.S. Marshal. Trump received this information shortly before his television appearance.

The president expressed his hope that the suspect would face the death penalty, stating, “Kirk was the finest person and he didn’t deserve this,” adding that Kirk was like a son to him.

In the lead-up to the arrest, investigators released photos and video footage of the suspect. Utah Governor Spencer Cox emphasized the importance of public assistance in the investigation. “We cannot do our job without the public’s help right now,” he said during a Thursday press conference.

Cox noted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has received over 7,000 tips and leads related to the case. The investigation continues as authorities work to gather more information.
