WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Forsyth County educators, staff and students arrived at school Friday morning wearing black, a visual sign of solidarity marking the final day for more than 240 staff members impacted by the district’s reduction in force (RIF) plan.

The Forsyth County Association of Educators (FCAE) organized the action, encouraging participants to wear black and red. According to the organization, black symbolizes mourning and red represents unity.

For some teachers, administrators and staff today marks the premature end of their school year. For others, it is the last day at their current school or in their current position.

“The impact on students can’t be overstated, and we won’t let these departures go unnoticed.” Jenny Easter FCAE president shared.
