ST. LOUIS — Local aerospace machinists are weighing a new contract from the Boeing Co., and an end to their six-week strike.
On Thursday, some said they aim to hold out for a better deal.
Michael Bergen, 66, a tool technician with 47 years experience here, took issue with the signing bonus in Boeing’s latest proposal — $1,000 less than the $5,000 offered to workers in a proposal voted down last month.
“They couldn’t even give us the original 5 again, not to mention we wanted 8 or 10,” he said. “That’s just kind of showing disrespect. It’s just, I don’t like it.”
Roughly 3,200 union machinists are scheduled to vote Friday on the new offer. If approved, workers would return to St. Louis-area assembly lines as soon as Monday, according to the company.
