SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited News Release/KY3) - Springfield’s Dickerson Park Zoo announced the birth of Chacoan peccary twins.

The twin peccaries, born September 11, were born to mom, Relish, and dad, Flash.

Peccaries, originally thought to be extinct, are an endangered species native to the Gran Chaco of Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina. The successful breeding of peccaries, facilitated through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, is a significant step in preserving this endangered species. The birth highlights DPZ’s and AZA’s collaborative efforts to ensure the survival of wildlife around the world.
