(CNN) - Coffee prices are on a double-espresso caffeine high.

Retail costs shot up more than 20% in August compared to 12 months prior, according to the Consumer Price Index.

That’s the biggest year-over-year leap for coffee since October 1997.

Economists said the Trump administration’s tariffs on coffee-exporting countries like Brazil are playing a huge role in the cost hike.

The U.S. imports the most coffee in the world.
