Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly ordered flags throughout the state to be flown at half-staff from Sept. 12-14 in remembrance of victims of political violence.
A press release from the governor's office specifically references the shootings of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10 and Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman on June 14.
“Our nation should not be a place where freedom of speech is silenced with political violence,” Kelly said in a press release . “I call on all Kansans, and all Americans, to join in a movement to bring political violence to an end. We must stop the use of dangerous rhetoric and return to respectfully debating issues without threats, hate, or violence.”
