The Columbus Fire Department said they are considering installing a Safe Haven Baby Box at one of their fire stations, according to WTVA.

The state of Mississippi said they recognize fire stations are safe locations to install these life-saving boxes.

Safe Haven boxes are designed to be a safe spot for someone to place a baby that they are unable to care for. It is a safe spot they can leave them.

WTVA reported that Columbus fire station leaders talked to city officials about getting one installed at their downtown location due to past instances of babies being abandoned.

Right now, this is just a proposal. A local organization in Columbus is raising funds to try to make this a reality.
