SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Prosecutors charged a Springfield man in the shooting death of a four-year-old child.

Shawn Collins faces second-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and three counts of stealing. He has been booked into the Greene County Jail.

Investigators say the child shot himself at a home in the 900 block of North Fulbright on August 8. The child later died from the gunshot wound.

Investigators say the gun the child found had been stolen.

Investigators say Collins has a long history of criminal incidents. He has two felony convictions in Illinois. He is also on probation in Missouri.
