Glasgow councillors have criticised the UK government’s silence over the gambling issues across the city as they agree to work together to help tackle the problem.
The Gambling Act 2005, which changed the law on gambling to cover online gambling and new generation gaming machines, was introduced before the rapid expansion of digital and mobile betting.
A joint motion agreed by the SNP and Labour, presented by councillor Laura Doherty and agreed by Bailie Kevin Lalley, was agreed at yesterday’s full council meeting and states that the UK Government should modernise gambling regulation to reflect today’s reality.
