NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A day care employee is now under arrest for allegedly abusing a baby over the summer at a Christian preschool.

Gladys Rampersant, 75, of North Charleston, is charged with unlawful conduct toward a child.

These charges stem from a reported July incident that occurred at Sweetgrass Christian Academy on Remount Road.

Detectives say Rampersant was engaging with a baby, less than a year old, yanking them up by the arms and shaking the infant hard before “slamming” them into a crib.

Reports say Rampersant went back to the baby, pulling them out of a crib and hitting them over the head several times.

Police say Rampersant was arrested for this “disturbing” crime Thursday and booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
