An Armada teen died Friday after he was hit by a car while riding his bike, authorities said.

Michigan State Police said troopers were called at about 5:30 a.m. to the scene of a traffic crash involving a bicyclist and an SUV on Armada Ridge Road near True Road in Armada Township.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2018 Jeep Compass traveling west was passing another vehicle when it struck a 16-year-old riding a bicycle. Police said a 66-year-old Memphis man was driving the Compass at the time.

Medics arrived and rendered aid before taking the teen to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, state police said. No other injuries were reported.

Officials said the crash is under investigation.
