HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office arrested the owner of Matthew Martin Construction after he allegedly altered checks given to him by a client.
According to a release from the sheriff's office, Matthew Martin, 33, altered several checks from an 85-year-old client in Evansville. Martin allegedly asked the client to leave the written dollar amount on checks blank, and inflated the dollar amounts by thousands of dollars.
During questioning, authorities say Martin admitted to altering one of the checks because he was struggling financially and mentally. Detectives say they also found two blank checks belonging to the victim in Martin's wallet.
Martin was charged with three counts of fraud and three counts of theft. He is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jai
