DENVER (KDVR) -- Multiple residents in the city of Greeley were sent child sexual abuse material alongside threats in the mail earlier this month, police said Friday.

The Greeley Police Department said it responded to multiple calls on Sept. 3 from residents who reported receiving the material in the mail alongside a demand to pay in cryptocurrency to avoid being reported to the FBI and Department of Homeland Security for possessing it.

"The Greeley Police Department urges the community to be cognizant of the mail they receive. If you suspect you have received mail with child sexual abuse material, do not open it, and contact the police immediately," the police said.
