James VanderLeest of Green Bay pleaded not guilty to reckless homicide charges in connection with the death of 2-year-old Leo Escalante .

VanderLeest, 22, appeared in Brown County Circuit Court on Sept. 12 for his arraignment. He is charged with first-degree reckless homicide, resisting or obstructing an officer and six counts of bail jumping, and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

VanderLeest's father, David VanderLeest, was also charged in connection to the toddler's death . David VanderLeest has pleaded not guilty to charges of harboring or aiding a felon and resisting or obstructing an officer. He is scheduled to stand trial on the charges starting Oct. 29.
