VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A noncitizen in Vigo County who has voted in multiple elections dating back to 2018 has been identified through Indiana's new verification process, according to the Indiana Secretary of State.

"The Vigo County case shows our work is paying off and demonstrates that Indiana is leading the way in election integrity—and we will continue to do so,” said Diego Morales, Indiana Secretary of State.

The Secretary of State said this "verified case of noncitizen voting" has been referred to law enforcement, under the proof of citizenship law — House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1264— that went into effect July 1, 2025.

According to a press release, the noncitizen in Vigo County was sent a notice to send in proof of citizenship and allegedly responded with a Mexican passport.
