FAIRFIELD -- Helping wildlife isn’t something police officers might expect when they took the oath to protect and serve.

But that didn’t stop a member of the Fairfield Police Department.

When Officer Morrison responded to a call about a car accident involving a deer, he found several people tending to a fawn that ran full speed into the side of a passing car.

After consulting with the Maine Warden Service, it was decided it was probably pretty dazed.

A post on the department’s Facebook page says after standing by for a few minutes to make sure it didn’t wander into traffic, he assisted the fawn back into the woods where its mother was waiting.

It’s not every day you see a deer on a leash.

They say this type of call is not in the manual, but he made it work.
