CHARLESTON — A James Island fire engineer has gone missing while on vacation in Bali.

Wesley Fairey went on a trip with three friends mid-August and was supposed to return with them Sept. 8. But he never showed up for his flight, those who traveled with him told The Post and Courier.

Tucker Mas, one of the friends on the trip, has been reaching out in Bali-based Facebook groups in hopes of gathering information on Fairey’s whereabouts.

A spokesperson with the U.S. Department of State wrote in an email that they are aware of reports of a U.S. citizen missing in Bali. They added when an American citizen goes missing, they work closely with local authorities as they continue search efforts. The State Department works to communicate with families when it’s appropriate.
