AKRON, Ohio (WJW) -- The historic original headquarters of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Akron has been vacant for 10 years.
Built in 1910 and later placed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building, with its iconic 8-story tall clock tower, has stood as a testimony to a time when Firestone and three other tire manufacturers had their international headquarters in Akron.
"The rubber industry created Akron -- explosive growth in the beginning of the last century -- and it was all due to the rubber factories," said Dana Noel, a contractor affiliated with an organization called Progress Through Preservation in Akron.
But the clock may be ticking for the future of the historic building.
