CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Little Red Schoolhouse in Clifton Park is one of 20 New York State properties to be added to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Following a recommendation from the New York State Board for Historic Preservation, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the 20 properties on Friday.

The Little Red Schoolhouse was built in 1903 as a one-room schoolhouse. However, after 50 years of offering public education to the Clifton Park community, the schoolhouse closed in 1953. Combining 22 schools, the Shenendehowa Central School District was established.

A group of parents purchased the schoolhouse in 1960, becoming the Clifton Park Nursery School Cooperative Preschool. Still in operation today, the Little Red Schoolhouse is the only remaining building of
