CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The suspect who police identified as the man who shot and killed political activist Charlie Kirk is in police custody.

Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested and is in police custody, accused of shooting and killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Wednesday morning.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns about political violence in the United States. Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal spoke about the issue, emphasizing the need to tone down political violence and pointing out the negative role social media plays in amplifying conflict.

"I think part of it is engendered by the fact that social media amplifies conflict," Congressman Neal said. "But now the threats that are offered to elected officials everywhere are unacceptable."
