DETROIT LAKES — The Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre is launching its 23rd season on Thursday, Sept. 18, with the return of Water Street Dance Milwaukee.

As the 'Historic' part of its name implies, the Holmes Theatre has a storied history in its home community. According to information available at the theater's website, dlccc.org/holmes-theatre, the three-story theater complex, which is part of the larger Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center, was named after E.G. Holmes, a New York native who made his way to Minnesota after serving in the Civil War. He eventually settled in what was then known as the village of Detroit.
