AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - The University of Maine at Augusta is turning 60 years old this year and held a celebration on campus on Friday.

It gave students, faculty, and alumni a chance to recognize what the school is today and how much it has grown.

“I think it says a lot about the fact that people see value here,” said Director of Early College Programs at U.M.A. Christine Smith. “They see hope for an improved future. They see inspiration to try something new.”

What began in the old Cony High School to settling into a campus on a old cow pasture. Despite the school’s growth in recent years, students say it remains a small welcoming environment.
