ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Health officials have confirmed a rare case of chickenpox in a young adult in Rowan County.
The Rowan County Public Health Department is investigating the case and offering support to prevent further spread. Chickenpox is a very contagious virus that causes an itchy, blister-like rash, fever, and fatigue, health officials said.
Chickenpox spreads through the air and by direct contact. One infected person can pass it to 9 or 10 others, they said. Most people who are vaccinated or have had chickenpox before are protected. Those who get sick despite being vaccinated usually have milder symptoms.
Health officials are reminding the public to: • Stay away from anyone who is sick or has a rash • Wash hands often • Check your vaccination status •
