The National Guard will soon deploy to the streets of Memphis, following a Friday morning announcement by President Donald Trump on Fox and Friends .

Trump called Memphis “deeply troubled" and said that he has the support of both Tennessee’s Republican Gov. Bill Lee and Memphis Democratic Mayor Paul Young.

"We're gonna fix that just like we did Washington,” Trump said, adding that he “would have preferred going to Chicago.”

In a statement Friday afternoon, Lee described the “next phase” as a “comprehensive mission” involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Tennessee National Guard, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Memphis Police Department.
