A man has been arrested for a violent sexual assault at Fort Hale Park in New Haven last month, police announced Friday.
Ludvi Omar Carias-Interiano, 34, originally from Guatemala, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated sexual assault in the first degree and unlawful restraint in the first degree. He appeared in court Friday and is currently being held on a $750,000 bond.

Police said Carias-Interiano is undocumented and had previously been deported. Immigration authorities have placed a criminal detainer on him.
The assault happened the morning of August 9 in a wooded area of the park , where the victim reported being attacked by a man wielding a box cutter.
