Supporters of a petition drive to keep the post office branch in Five Points open say they have collected over 1,800 signatures backing the effort. The U.S. Postal Service announced plans to close the facility, along with other contracted branches around the nation, by the end of the month. Longtime resident Marilyn Vickers is one of the organizers.

“I did get in touch with Shaun LaBay who is a Denver-based postal employee who is one of the two people on the bottom of the announcement,” according to Vickers. “And he said many communities are starting a petition drive, and they’re sending letters to the U.S. Postmaster General and to their local, state, and federal officials.”

The branch, which is located inside the ADD Drug pharmacy, has been in service for decades.
