Federal Department of Employment researchers say a 2018 youth volunteer program is unknown by young people despite more than $204 million spent to date, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.
The report, Canada Service Corps: Qualitative Research With Youth And Youth-Serving Organizations, says the department was “unable to give an overall impression of the program” because few people had heard of it.
The Canada Service Corps. was launched by by former prime minister Justin Trudeau seven years ago, paying up to $1,500 per student to promote youth volunteerism.
“Young people should have more chances to serve their communities while gaining valuable skills and experience,” Trudeau said at the time. “Together, let’s inspire a new culture of service in Canada.”
