Two girls from a Claremont high school competed against some of WA’s top surfing schools at a tense State Finals last month.

Sabah Phillips, 18, and Bronte Scott, 17, from Methodist Ladies College were among more than 50 high school teams battling it out as part of Surfing WA’s biggest day of the year.

The two girls had qualified for the State finals after taking out first place at the recent metropolitan qualifiers.

“It felt good to win the metro one; we’ve won multiple times before and had put in lots of effort, training and being coached in the lead up,” Bronte said.

Juniors, seniors, boys, and girls faced off in a high-energy contest at Trigg Beach on Friday, August 29, in a bid to secure a spot place at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Wollongong later this year.
