The brand-new Lyn Beazley Academy in West Perth revealed a secret hidden for nearly 80 years when it opened its doors last week.

Tucked between old timbers — likely slipped through a floorboard decades ago — builders found a handwritten letter from 1947.

The note appears to be a reply to a newspaper advertisement in The West Australian from a person seeking accommodation, complete with an offer of an available flat in Mandurah.

“It is very central being only one street up from the waterfront and handy to all shops,” the tattered note explains.

“If you are at all interested, please let me know at the above address, as soon as possible.”

While the full classified hasn’t yet been uncovered, the family name signed by the letter writer has inspired a new research project.
