WASHINGTON — Crime on Metro is down sharply for the second year in a row, a new report shows, and this time, riders say they’re noticing the difference.
According to WMATA’s latest Service Excellence Report, serious crime across the Metro system fell 43% between June 2024 and June 2025. Compared to two years ago, overall crime is down about 50%.
“We’ve seen significant drops across the board,” said Metro Transit Police Assistant Chief Stephen Boehm."
The biggest declines came in auto thefts (down nearly 60%), along with double-digit drops in robberies, assaults, and larceny, according to Metro’s data.
Boehm credits the improvement to more visible officers, crisis intervention teams, and targeted fare enforcement at stations with higher crime.
