NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The man accused in the violent sexual assault of a woman at Fort Hale Park in New Haven Aug. 9 appeared in court Friday, as prosecutors laid out a disturbing account of the attack and asked for stricter conditions on his bond.

Ludvi Carias-Interiano, 34, of West Haven, appeared in shackles at New Haven Superior Court, flanked by six bailiffs. Prosecutors were seeking to increase his bond from $750,000 to $1.5 million, citing his immigration status and history of deportation. They also requested GPS monitoring and a 24-hour home lockdown if he is released on bail.

Carias-Interiano, who is originally from Guatemala, has been deported twice before. Prosecutors argued he is a flight risk.
