WEST BRANCH, Iowa (KCRG) - More mothers are stepping away from their full- or part-time jobs to stay at home and care for their children. And Makenzie Bruegge of West Branch is one of them

Originally, she thought she would be back at work this fall. But after giving birth to her second son, she started to crunch the numbers to pay for daycare.

“When we did that I was like, ‘this does not make sense,’” said Bruegge.

The Economic Policy Institute says the average daycare for one child costs $10,000.

Bruegge’s paycheck would barely cover the cost of childcare for just one of her kids. So, the Bruegges considered an alternate route.
