FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — Franklin County authorities have arrested a man for allegedly scamming elderly residents by pretending to be a federal law enforcement officer.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said an investigation into scams was opened after an elderly resident lost $30,000 in cash.

Someone posing as a Federal Trade Commission agent told the victim their accounts were under investigation and would be frozen unless he withdrew $30,000 in cash and gave it to agents.

The man withdrew the cash and gave it to a man posing as an FTC agent.

The victim reportedly told his son who quickly contacted the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said detectives launched a sting operation with the victim to arrange a second, controlled delivery.
