Boston police reported that an officer was shot early on Friday morning in Roxbury and that they arrested a suspect in the shooting.
Police arrested Daiquan Rice, 31, and charged him with attempted murder and half a dozen other gun and drug charges.
In a statement on Friday afternoon, police said the officer who was shot was investigating “suspicious activity” at African American Veterans Memorial Park at 12:46 a.m. on Friday.
Four officers had been monitoring a group inside the park. Officers approached one person, later identified as Rice, who fled on foot, according to police.
During the chase from Washington Street onto Archer Terrace and over to Kenilworth Street, Rice fired a gun, striking an officer in the arm, police said.
