LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
A Louisville family’s last-minute decision to play the second-largest Powerball jackpot paid off.
Kentucky Lottery officials said the family, who asked to remain anonymous, spent hours debating about getting tickets for $1.7 billion jackpot drawing.
The family held off on their decision to purchase tickets until 9 p.m. Sept. 6. That night, they bought tickets from three different lottery retailers.
It wasn’t until the next day, while watching an NFL game, that they remembered their purchase.
The mother of the family said, “Around 3 p.m., the entire family was around, and I just grabbed the tickets out of my purse and handed them to my son.”
