BOSTON — Instant reactions from the Red Sox ’ 4-1 loss to the Yankees at Fenway Park on Friday:

1) The Sox dropped to 81-67, while New York improved to 82-65. Boston leads the season series 8-3.

2) The Red Sox stroked just two hits. They were without a hit until Nate Eaton’s 380-foot solo home run to left field with two outs in the seventh inning off reliever Fernando Cruz, cutting New York’s lead to 4-1.

Boston’s only other hit came when Alex Bregman singled to lead off the eighth inning.

3) Yankees starter Luis Gil allowed no hits in 6 innings. He pitched around four walks and struck out four.
