NEWBURGH, Ind. (WFIE) - It’s been almost a week since the large chemical fire at the PBTT facility in Newburgh prompted a shelter in place order.
Multiple agencies were brought in to assist with the following investigation and cleanup efforts.
Together, they have assessed and cleaned up toxic ash from over 80 properties, including daycares, homes, schools, and more.
The four agencies that are running unified command for the investigation are EPA, IDEM, Warrick County Health Department, and the Ohio Township Fire Department.
Those four, along with other agencies that have joined in to help, have one main focus: the safety of the surrounding community
“As a multi-agency response, we’re interested in making sure the public’s protected,” Jason Sewell, On-Scene Coordinator with EPA, said.
