LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A community, including lots of children, is grieving after a 5-year-old was killed, police believe, at the hands of his own father.
That 5-year-old, Eli Rayne, was also a part of the California Jets Football Team. His mentors and teammates all paid tribute to him with a balloon release and picnic at Algonquin Park on Friday night.
For the California Jets, practices have been different recently without Eli, who his coach said was just old enough to join the team.
“Every day, I interact with almost every kid on this team, put their pads on, take their pads off...so, not seeing him around, and then finding out what really happened to him...yeah, it tore me up, it tore me up. Very sad day,” said Ed Robinson, coach for the California Jets.
