Northgate tops Newnan in county rivalry clash

Northgate defeated Newnan 35-21 on Friday night at Drake Stadium, seizing control of the Coweta County rivalry with a decisive second-half surge.

Newnan opened the game strong with an early rushing touchdown to build a 7-0 lead, but Northgate answered late in the first quarter with a 2-yard score from Woody Schettini to tie it 7-7.

The Vikings then capitalized on an interception when quarterback Ledger Clements connected with Connor Chubb for a touchdown to take a 14-7 lead.

Newnan tied it 14-14 early in the second quarter, but Schettini responded with a 6-yard touchdown run just before halftime to give Northgate a 21-14 edge.
