Upgrades at a city-owned golf course in Harlingen are nearly complete.

Crews are installing new lights for the driving range at the Tony Butler Golf Course. They've already fixed pathways and rebuilt some of the holes. The golf course also bought new carts.

"We want to give something back to the community, and having a good golf course really helps our community. It's a wellness deal for people, but it also attracts Winter Texans and the residual effects of having a nice golf course brings in many more Winter Texans," Tony Butler Golf Course Director Jeff Hart said.

The project cost more than $5 million and came from the Harlingen Community Improvement Board.

Work should be done in about two months.
