OREM, Utah — Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, CBS News reported .

The arrest ended a nationwide manhunt that began after Kirk was killed during a campus event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

According to ABC News , Robinson was taken into custody late Thursday night after reportedly confessing to his father. The father then alerted a youth pastor affiliated with law enforcement, who helped coordinate Robinson’s surrender to authorities.

Kirk, 31, was speaking at a Turning Point USA event when a single shot struck him in the neck. Investigators believe the bullet was fired from the roof of a nearby building, NBC News reported .
