KIRKWOOD — Baron James doesn't have a defined role for Lafayette High's football team.

Except that he does it all.

James certainly did his best to end Kirkwood’s hopes Friday night, making two critical defensive plays late to help visiting Lafayette pull out a 35-28 win in a Suburban Conference Yellow Pool football game on Friday night.

A 6-foot-5, 230-pound lineman, James pounced on a loose ball after an errant snap got past Kirkwood quarterback Cooper Owens and rolled into the end zone. James’ first ever score gave Lafayette a 35-21 lead with 3:47 left in the game.

“It was a big stop,” James said. “It definitely shifted the momentum to our side.”

James also added a sack late to put a capper on what he called “the highlight” of his football career.
