A 31-year-old man who is accused of triggering a fire alarm inside Gungahlin Market Place allegedly bit police officers who tried to arrest him.

The incident was reported about 8pm on Friday when members of the public approached officers patrolling the area to complain about the man.

Police found the man, who allegedly tried to run away after officers approached him.

"The man allegedly heavily resisted police, with two officers being bitten during the arrest," an ACT Policing spokeswoman said.

He faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, charged with assaulting a frontline community service provider and obstructing/resisting a territory public official.
