LAUREL — It’s a homecoming tradition in Laurel.
Every time the Locomotives scored a touchdown — five times on Friday night — a loud bang was heard from a flash boom firework.
And for senior running back Curtis Fox, the sound was music to his ears as he scored on runs of two, 21 and two yards as Laurel — rated No. 2 in Class A in the 406 rankings — defeated Lockwood 35-7 in a game delayed an hour due to lightning.
“I love that. It’s really nice,” said Fox of hearing the boom after each of Laurel’s touchdowns.
When the players lined up to start the game at 7 p.m., there was lightning in the vicinity and the game was to be delayed for a half hour. There were then numerous other strikes of lightning in the area and eventually the game started at 8 p.m. with a light rain that would soon
